You see someone successful and possibly trace back some of the actions just prior to that event. You may even think that by following the exact same steps that the other person followed, you may be able to achieve the same success. Try it and chances are that you will fail. Since it is impossible to re-create the other person’s history in your own life, you just have to see what is that in “your history” that you can take advantage of to “create something compelling” that others can’t replicate.
Prime time is that successful event – like releasing of your book, launching your company or anything that you think is significant in your eyes AND the eyes of the marketplace. The time way before the prime-time event has a huge influence on that prime event. Look at this quote from the legendary Muhammed Ali:
“It’s not the time in the ring that wins a fight, but the work at 4.30a.m. with no one watching that makes me a champion”
- Muhammed Ali

TeamPages, Inc)
Fast forward your life to about five years from now. Think about some prime-time events for your life at that time. Today is that time “way before” that prime-time.
What can you do for the next five years consistently and autonomously (meaning – without requiring someone to hold you accountable) that will lead you to those prime-times later?

I traveled on Southwest Airlines this morning from San Jose to Seattle. I love Southwest Airlines for one reason – they set a low expectation but exceed it most of the time.
I was reading their airline magazine called “Spirit”. There was a short article on blogging on Page #46. Here is what it said:
“Every second, 17 blog postings appear on the web. The most popular blogging languages are Japanese(37 percent), English(36 percent) and Chinese(8 percent), according to Technorati, a blog that tracks blogs. Starting a blog is a snap. You don’t need to be technology wiz. You don’t even need to have anything important to say. Just go to any number of free sites like Blog.com or Blogger.com, follow the directions, and presto-you’re a blogger”
Apart from mis-representing Technorati as a blog, the article says “You don’t even need to have anything important to say” in a blog.
One more way to encourage users to keep the signal-to-noise ratio low

This is the story of Bob.
Bob is a prisoner at a maximum security prison. He does not like it there. He will do anything and everything to get back his freedom. He has spent a number of years in this prison and he is sick of it.
One fine day, Bob gets his freedom. He is out of the maximum security prison. On that night, Bob slept well. He finally had his freedom.
Next day, when he woke up, he found something was different. Bob was in a small room. It seemed like a prison cell. He could not believe it. The room was locked. He pinched himself and found that it was not fiction. He really was in prison. He saw that the prison had his own name “Bob’s Prison”.
It was really scary. Bob has moved from a maximum security prison into his own prison.
The above was a fictional story. However, I see that it is easy for a first-time entrepreneur to fall into a similar trap. This can happen especially when the first-time entrepreneur thinks about starting a company JUST BECAUSE he wants “freedom”. If not done right, the first-time entrepreneur can escape from a “prison” to get captured by himself in his “own prison”.

I am deeply touched by Sadhguru’s teachings. You can learn more about him and his work at Isha Yoga. You can see a glimpse of what insights Sadhguru can pack in this simple quote.
I have heard from my other teachers and mentors that the key skill a professional has to learn is the art of building an identity in the marketplace. However, it is important to remember that this “identity” cannot be a fake one – meaning you can’t make it up. Your identity is just that – it represents “who you are”. So there is no other option left but to work on “who you are”.
Enjoy the quote and the week ahead!
“Work is an expression of who you are. So who you are is what needs to be worked out”

I couldn’t agree more with my hero Tom on this quote. Over the last ten years, I have been involved in at least eight companies (all of them are still alive and growing, Thank God!) from a very early stage. I have watched these companies evolve and I can say that the business models for EVERY ONE of them has morphed SEVERAL TIMES during the lifetime of these companies.
Enjoy the quote and your weekend.
“Nobody – repeat, nobody-gets it right the first time.”

Look into the past lives of successful people and you will notice that most of them would have had more failures than successes. The reason may just be that they are not afraid to “try” more things. This short and sweet quote from David captures the essence of this brilliantly.
“Enlightened trial and error outperforms the planning of flawless intellects”
