The idea is simple (but hard to execute, of course)

Build a simple and powerful platform and get passionate people to get engaged. Watch new possibilities emerge.

I have taken a simple example here. Fortunately or unfortunately, the example is that of a Hindi song from the movie “Jaane Tu” on YouTube.

First, please watch the song in it’s original form below (you might enjoy the song even if you don’t know Hindi language)

Next, please watch the version where someone passionate enough to provide the song combined with lyrics.

What next?

Someone might even put the video and the lyrics together and make it ready for a Karaoke party right away

Hi,

I am surprised by this article of yours. Because, it has been very common in local cable channels (or in even some music channels)where you can have both video and audio of the song and simultaneously along with the lyrics at the bottom. Adding to that, the color of text changes as the singer moves over that particular word.

By the way, I am a regular reader of your blog. Shared many of your articles via my google-reader. Thank you for the insights.

First, please note that this example is used to make a point and the example itself is not the point. But let me address the difference since you asked.

Local cable channel is not a platform where the user can create something (easily). The beauty of YouTube is that they created a platform and the rest of the work is done by passionate users. The value of the platform is almost close to zero without the content created by passionate users. In case of a local cable channel, the responsibility for the content lies with the local channel. If they rest, the channel stops.
